NATURAL MEDICINE WALK

DESCRIPTION: For centuries, the forest has provided medicine to our people. Hundreds of years of experience taught us the secrets to heal ourselves through natural herbs and plants. Take a 5-hour walk into the jungle to learn about our natural pharmacy.

EQUIPMENT: Comfortable outfit, rubber boots, Ziploc bags for mobile phone and other personal items.

​

CAUTIONS: Possible adverse reactions to some plants, bumps, and falls.

FAMILY FISHING DAY

DESCRIPTION: A half day activity full of fun! Share 5 hours with an Achuar family fishing in the traditional way. Then you will learn to prepare the fish and share it with your hosting family.  

​

EQUIPMENT: Swimming outfit, rubber boots.

BIRD WATCHING

DESCRIPTION: Ecuador is known for having the highest number of bird species in relation to its territory. Our jungle is home of a large variety of parrots, toucans, papagayos among many others. Prepare your binoculars,  from very early in the morning a local guide will take you to discover those amazing animals.

EQUIPMENT: Comfortable outfit, binoculars, rubber boots, Ziploc bags for mobile phone and other personal items.

MAMMALS WATCHING WALK

DESCRIPTION: The jungle is home of rare and exotic mammals, sadly, many of them are in danger due to illegal hunting and habitat diminish. If you want to get close to a guanta, danta, monkeys, guatusa, sajino or even a jaguar, a native guide will take you deep into the jungle to have a close look at unique animals. Some of these animals have night habits so night walks can also be arranged.

EQUIPMENT: Comfortable outfit, binoculars, rubber boots, Ziploc bags for mobile phone and other personal items.

CAUTIONS: Dangerous animals, possible adverse reactions to some plants, bumps, and falls.

EXPERIENCE TRADITIONAL ACHUAR AGRICULTURE

DESCRIPTION: Visit our farm. We will share the techniques and procedures required to have a clean, diverse and healthy "huerta" as we call our croplands.

EQUIPMENT: Confortable outfit, rubber boots.

FASTING & ANCESTRAL MEDICINE

DESCRIPTION: The Achuar strength and wisdom come from nature. The Achuar people use a variety of natural medicines that guide their path in life. Medicines vary from Tabaco, Guayusa, Ayahuasca, among others.  Some ancestral medicine requires preparation and fasting for some hours according to medicine.  Ceremonies usually take place at night in the forest or a community member's house. A visit to the shaman can also be arranged.

EQUIPMENT: Comfortable outfit.

CAUTIONS: Recommended for 16 years old and older.

EDUCATIONAL WALKS

DESCRIPTION: Although you will be learning in every activity, these walks are specially designed for environmental education. We will take you to the places of water supply and hunting areas, where you can learn the importance of having a balanced life with nature around us. We also like to hear what you have to say about environmental issues so open discussion and ideas sharing encourage in this activity

EQUIPMENT: Comfortable outfit, rubber boots.

WORKSHOPS WITH THE COMMUNITY

DESCRIPTION:  We will teach you to make our handcrafts like the "chankina" which is a sort of basket made from natural fibers, the "tutank" which is the typical Achuar chair, or the "pinink" the traditional clay jar to drink "chicha". If you like to cook, workshops to prepare traditional food like "ayampaco" or the famous "chicha" are also available. Workshops on natural medicine can also be arranged. The workshops will be delivered by a family member in his or her house.

WORK DAY WITH THE COMMUNITY

DESCRIPTION: Living in our community means working together and helping each other. The so-called "minga" clearly shows it. In a minga day, all members of the community work together for the benefit of the whole. Join us in our minga, let's work together and afterward we will enjoy a cheerful moment of conversation and chicha (traditional Achua drink).

EQUIPMENT: Light outfit, rubber boots.

SPORT DAY WITH THE COMMUNITY

DESCRIPTION: We, the Achuar are very hardworking people, but we know the balance between rest and work.   Join us on a morning to have a relaxing day playing football and the traditional "ecua-voley"

DESCRIPTION: The perfect way to finish the day in the community is around a fire. We will gather to tell Achuar stories and myths, to sing traditional songs and even tell Achuar jokes.
